Kedhlow Sponsors Loreto Convent School Rugby Teams. The Loreto team looked particularly dazzling in their brand new kit, which has been kindly sponsored by Kedhlow (Gibraltar) Ltd. The children loved them and there were smiling faces all round The Gibraltar Rugby Union Development Officer (RDO) Guy Leleu, organised a schools tournament, which was played on Thursday 5th May. The event was a resounding success with local teams from years 4-7 taking part from St Anne’s and Loreto Schools as well as Sotogrande School. Our young male and female players thoroughly enjoyed the event, with plenty of smiling faces all round. Tag rugby is a booming sport in Gibraltar, with many youngsters experiencing rugby in their middle schools for the first time. The efforts of both Loreto and St Anne’s teachers have not gone unnoticed. Both schools have demonstrated a great improvement all round as stated by the RDO. Guy was also keen to point out the manner in which the pupils behaved and was pleased to see that many of Gibraltar’s rugby players are adhering to the gentlemanly ethos which the game of rugby adheres to. The Gibraltar Rugby Football Union now offer an after school club for children below the age of 12. The sessions are held at the Archery Range on Saturday mornings between 10:00am – 11:00am for youngsters aged 7-9 and 11:00-12:00 for youngsters aged 9-12. Kedhlow's Team Win (of course)! 17th May 2011 Last Thursday saw the Stormers v Sharks playing at the DTC. The first encounter of the evening ended up being a fairly one sided affair as the Stormers accrued a tidy total of 50 points (Teddy Sacarello getting a number of tries), against a weakened Sharks side. The Sharks have underperformed this season, despite having a considerable advantage in the drafting of players. The convincing victory saw the Stormers clinch the first place in the Super IVs play-off final. The Sharks will have to fight over the wooden spoon.
The second match of the night was a more closely and hotly contested encounter. Both teams were eager to gain victory and make it to the first final of the Super IVs. The Sharks started the match in a strong position and were able to exert plenty of pressure on the Buccaneers' defense. The Buccaneers, however were in no mood to let this affect their game plan and were hungry for possession. Both teams wanted the win and their tempers flared on a number of occasions as both captain's battled to contain their players' lack of discipline. Tries from youngsters such as Ashley Martins (Buccaneers) and Philip Reyes (Scorpions) ensured that the first half of match was an even contest. Philip's try was fantastic as he wormed his way through a number of players to give the Scorpions some real self belief.
The second half of the match was a slightly different story as the Buccaneers' greater experience and fitness, began to exert considerable dominance both in territory and possession. The Scorpions fought hard to the end but were unable to bounce back from a few more Buccaneer's tries. The final score was 25 - 10 to the Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers were delighted with their victory that gives them the final slot in the Super IVs, Grand Final. The final between the Stormers and Buccaneers sees a re-match of the inaugural match of the Super IVs, where both teams drew 25 a piece. The Scorpions held their head high and now look forward to the 3rd and 4th place play-off.
It should be mentioned that the Scorpions have dug deep and brought some raw talent onto the field, which although inexperienced have served their team admirably. They have built on their successes in every game and will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in next year's league.
The play-offs will be held at DTC on Thursday 26th May at DTC:
Sharks V Scoprions 6:30pm
Buccaneers v Stormers 8:00
There will be an award ceremony at the end for the victors, best player, top scorer and most improved player of the tournament as well as the wooden spoon.

Gibraltar Buccaneers 25, Gibraltar Stormers 25
31st May 2011
Gibraltar Buccaneers, Captained by Chad Thompson, who are proudly sponsored by Kedhlow (Gibraltar) Ltd, played their first game today, with a 25 point draw. Not bad for a team that trains in the Lord Nelson!
The Buccaneers win was stolen in the last minutes by a trip over the try line by Gibraltar Stormers.
The new kit was welcomed with open arms, though some players would have preferred the more baggier shirts that were used in the 80’s. Apparently stripes are more of a slimming look, and the hoops give a more rounded look. Figure hugging shirts do not do justice to these rugged rugby players.
Kedhlow’s Gibraltar Account Manger had a few issues with the weight of the ball. Apparently the air used to inflate the ball was pumped locally and this made the ball a lot heavier “If we had used air from the UK, it would have been a lot lighter and I would have been able to carry it in one arm, and used my sleek side stepping power to outpace the Stormers. Obviously, I made the referee aware of this advantage to the Stormers”
Well done to everyone involved. Next game is on the 14th April 2011, everyone is welcome to come and support and to have a fun time.
We wish the team all the best with their season.
